Calamagrostis x acutiflora / Karl Foerster Grass

Calamagrostis x acutiflora

This popular ornamental grass is known for its striking vertical form and feathery flower plumes. It features narrow, bright green leaves that form dense clumps, with flower stalks rising well above the foliage. In late spring to early summer, the grass produces feathery, reddish-brown flower spikes that mature to a golden tan and persist through the winter, adding year-round interest to the landscape. This grass does not produce viable seed and is not invasive. Cut the clumps back in the winter before the spring growth emerges. Thriving in full sun, it is highly adaptable to a variety of soil conditions, including wet and heavy clay soils. Ideal for use as a specimen plant, in mass plantings, or as a vertical accent in borders and rain gardens.
