Carpinus betulus/European Hornbeam

European hornbeams are excellent for groupings around large buildings and are useful as screens, hedges, and windbreak trees. They feature densely textured foliage and handsome, slate-gray bark that is smooth to fluted. The dark green leaves turn an attractive yellow in the fall, and the bark and buds provide ornamental interest in winter.
