Carpinus betulus ‘Fastigiata’ / Pyramidal European Hornbeam

This attractive, deciduous tree is densely branched and columnar when young, maturing into a stately, broad cone shape with handsome, fluted gray bark. Its distinctive dark green foliage turns yellow-orange in the fall. It can be planted in groups as a screen or windbreak, or used as a specimen in narrow yards or along streets. Additionally, it responds well to hard pruning, making it suitable for formal hedges.
